The Fortymile caribou has returned. Once numbering half a million caribou, the herd's numbers fell to only 5,000 caribou in the early 70s, but efforts by first nations, biologists and governments on both sides of the border is bringing the caribou back. The herd now numbers over 50,000 members and in 2013 it returned to the Yukon for the first time in generations.
